The Resilient Working Mum

A podcast for high-performing working mothers — and the organisations that rely on them — navigating pressure, performance, and the invisible load of modern work and life.

You might look like you’re coping on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, reactive, or constantly “on” behind the scenes. This is where we make sense of that experience and change it.

The focus of this podcast is on the internal patterns shaping how you think, respond, and show up at work and at home.

I’m Charlotte Haggie, resilience specialist, coach, and working mum. I help high-achieving women build the capacity to stay steady under pressure so that they can think clearly, lead effectively, and be present in the moments that matter.

Inside this podcast, we move beyond surface-level solutions like time-management and organisation.

You’ll learn how to:
• stay focused and make clear decisions under pressure
• respond with intention
• build self-trust and emotional stability
• reduce the mental load that drains your energy
• sustain high performance over time

For leaders and organisations, these conversations offer insight into the drivers of burnout, disengagement, and retention risk in high-performing women, along with a clearer understanding of what supports long-term performance and wellbeing.

This is about developing the capacity to handle complexity, pressure, and responsibility with clarity, steadiness, and control.

Feeling anxious is something that we have all experienced in varying degrees.  But why do some people find certain situations anxiety provoking while others seem to manage them or even thrive in them? Why do some people get overwhelmed, lose focus and feel stressed when other can remain calm and peaceful and in control?
Today’s conversation takes a look at an equation that offers a different perspective on anxiety that might allow you to understand it a little bit better.  This perspective might help you make changes to the way that you approach a situation so that you can feel less anxious and stressed, more confident and calm and able to focus on the tasks at hand without being distracted and flustered.

I think it is really useful to have a word for the year that keeps us aligned to our goals and can help to ground us when things get a little chaotic so that we can keep balanced and feel more in control.
This year, I have chosen a word that is going to remind me what I am doing with this podcast and as a working mum. It is a word that you, too, can use to make the work that you do at work and at home feel less onerous and heavy!
If you have a different word that you would like to share that is your grounding word, head over to my free Facebook group (https://bit.ly/managingmumcommunity) or find me on Instagram and let me know. I would love to hear some other words that I can add to my arson for 2024!

It is the beginning of a new year. And we all have a list of resolutions that we are going to keep THIS YEAR! We are going to be more organized. We are going to be more consistent with our eating/exercise/parenting strategy. We are going to stop shouting at the children so much.  We are going to be more self-controlled.  We are going to be healthier. We are going to find more balance and be less stressed.
The question is why it has been so hard to keep these resolutions up until now? And what can we do to make sure that we do keep them this year?
Today, our conversation focuses on what sabotages us and our attempts to succeed anywhere in our lives, let alone when it comes to our new years’ resolutions, whatever those may be! What sabotages our productivity? Or our work life balance? Why are we so easily distracted?  Why can't we be more disciplined?
I offer an exercise that can help you to build the muscles that will allow you to stick to those decisions that you have made and to succeed in your goals in all the areas that you long to.

Struggling to lose weight? Wish you had more control of what you eat and how much you eat? Do you want to find a way of life that makes you feel clearer and cleaner and healthier in your body and in your mind? Longing to focus on your work and be more productive but there is so much noise in your head about what works and what doesn't?
I have always struggled with my weight and I have been on and off the diet roller coaster much of my life. It has been stressful and overwhelming. But since I started intermittent fasting, I have found it so much easier to manage my weight, feeling more in control and also able to enjoy the foods that I love. This episode talks about my experience with intermittent fasting and explains why it works, based on work my Dr Jason Fung.
It is not for everyone but this just gives you a brief outline and maybe an introduction to something that you can find out more about and try to see if it works for you too.
More information on Dr Jason Fung can be found at https://www.doctorjasonfung.com/. There are many informative videos by him on YouTube as well.

When the balls are all in the air and you feel overwhelmed and like you need more time, it is easy to drop the balls that appear to be not ‘as important’. These are generally the things that are the most important for us, the working mum, the things that keep us going and make us feel good as mums and as women.
I have three non-negotiables in my day that I know I need in order to maintain my work life balance. They make sure that I feel physically, mentally and emotionally healthy so that I can face the day. These three non-negotiables allow me to manage the juggle the best I can while finding some calm, peace and joy (and of course, balance) in it along the way.
Yours may well be different to mine so once you have listened, take some time to think about what you need to so that you can be productive at work and present with your family. What do you need to make a non-negotiable so that you can find ease and flow in your day, so that you can be more organized and focused and can get more done and can find that balance as a working mum?

In this second part of our two part ‘series’ on asking for help, we look at how you can ask for help in a way that you will actually get it so that you can have more time to get things done, can focus and be more productive and can feel less stressed about your to do list!
If you haven’t yet, I really recommend that if you struggle to ask for help, you listen to part one first. This episode offers clarity around why it is hard to ask for help and why it causes such anxiety.
When you have listened to episode 19, come back to this episode and learn about how to ask for it effectively so that you can create more work life balance in this busy season of working motherhood.

Asking for help can be really hard for a lot of us as working mums. And yet getting help might be the difference between failure and success. It can decrease our stress levels and allow us to be more productive so that we can focus more and in turn feel less stressed!
There are various reasons why it might be difficult for us to ask for help. Getting to know these gives the chance to get past our blockages so that we can ask for help. By doing this one thing, we have more time, we are less distracted and we can be more organized and get more done.
This first episode in a two part ‘series’ on help looks at some universal anxieties around asking for help. I hope that it gives you some peace knowing that you are not alone but also that it gives you some food for thought around how you can get past these blockages so that you can ask for help and feel calmer and more in control.

I love Christmas and all that it means. But in recent years since I have become a mom, I have found that there is so much to do and so much to think of that it has become less joyful and more arduous and there are times that I have wished it was over!
I have found it all very stressful and have struggled with the mental load, longing for more time to get it all done and wishing I could be more present in all the fun activities. I have felt the mom guilt of missing Christmas shows but also the exhaustion of having to think about all the to dos.
With the holidays fast approaching, I am determined to enjoy this season and to find joy in it again, starting off the new year feeling rested and happy!
I will be following the tips I have offered in this episode to do this and I know that they will make a difference for me and I hope that they do for you too. Let's make this Christmas more fun, less stressful and what it used to be!
